- Hear a presentation on staff recommendations to the County Manager; and

- Share your thoughts on what the County Manager should recommend to the County Board.

Join us to celebrate our neighborhood on Saturday, May 10, 2008, from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm at the Madison Community Center, 3829 North Stafford Street, Arlington, VA 22207

Guests include the Arlington County Fire Department and Police Department with a special appearance by McGruff, the crime fighting dog.

Activities include:

Wine Raffle – For $5 per ticket or 5 tickets for $20, you can win 12 bottles of fine wine!
Community Yard Sale - Shop for or sell your treasures. If you are interested in selling items, either bring a blanket to place items or rent a table from us for $5. Email us by May 2nd to reserve your table.
Moon Bounce – Bring your children to enjoy our moon bounce and shake out those sillies!
Face Painting – Your children will love changing into a lion, mouse, or pirate with our face painter.
Getting Involved – Join our Civic Association! $10/year, $25 for 3 years or $100 for a lifetime membership.

Yorktown Honors New YHS Graduate Hall of Fame Members on May 23rd

Celebrate these special newly chosen role models who will continue to be an inspiration to Yorktown students and the community.

The Yorktown Hall of Fame and Inspiration Committee invite you to a ceremony and reception to induct new members of the Hall of Fame on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the Yorktown theater. We invite all current students, faculty, families, YHS alumni, and Arlington residents.

YHS dedicated the first class of Hall of Fame and Inspiration members in 2003. Their plaques and personal stories hang outside the YHS theater. Our new members, as graduates of Yorktown who have made outstanding and honorable accomplishments in their life's work, will join the original group.

The new names will be announced in a press release on May 9, 2008.

The original members include astronaut David Brown (class of 1974, who was among seven astronauts killed on Feb. 1, 2003, when Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated on reentry to Earth’s atmosphere), Katie Couric of ABC News, and Olympic swimmer Tom Dolan.

Spaghetti Lunch Success! - We hosted a wonderful spaghetti lunch on Saturday, March 29th, complete with spaghetti, salad, bread, and dessert. A huge moon bounce and master balloon maker were there to entertain the many children who attended our First Annual event! Thank you all for joining us!.

Free Tree Giveaway: Arlington County Parks and Natural Resources Division is once again offering small tree whips, approximately 3 – 5 feet in height and potted in one or two gallon plastic containers to be given to homeowners on Neighborhood Day. The larger shade canopy tree available this year is the yellow-poplar, also known locally as the Tulip-poplar(Liriodendron tulipifera) which grows to be about 70 to 100 feet tall. The small under story tree is the Allegheny serviceberry (Amelanchier laevis) which grows 15 – 25 feet tall with lovely white blossoms in the spring. Both trees are native and good choices for this area and a favorite with the birds and squirrels. Tree orders can be placed through Helen by April 16th.
